When H.A Lowe started the family‐owned company, City Radio Services Limited, in 1948, asan importer and supplier of radios, he had no idea how bright the future would be! The company started out by importing and selling television sets, public address systems and then, light fixtures. Soon “City Radio” no longer reflected the range of the company’s services and the Company’s name was changed to an abbreviation, CITRAD LIMITED, marking the beginning of an impressive trajectory of growth, sparked by a very bright idea.
The opportunity arose in the 1960s to purchase a factory in 11 Miles, Bull Bay, Jamaica, from which it could embark on a different phase of the business and the company seized it. In so doing, CITRAD created history, becoming the first company in Jamaica to manufacture and distribute light fixtures, an intelligent, game‐changing move, which essentially lit the company’s path for an even more brilliant future. Seven successful decades later, CITRAD sits at the forefront of energy and efficient lighting technology in Jamaica, distinguishing itself by its research and manufacturing capabilities and output. Harmony Cove, The Port Royal Cruise Ship Terminal and the prestigious BMW and Audi Showrooms in Jamaica, are among the many notable projects that display CITRAD’s outstanding work.
Outside of Jamaica, the company’s strong reputation for reliability, consistency, integrity, expertise, and innovation has led to partnerships with several international lighting companies, for whom CITRAD has the enviable distinction and designation of being named their local representative.
In its commitment to continue to create and provide the best and most innovative and efficient lighting solutions and technology, CITRAD consistently employs cutting edge technology to improve on the quality and consistency of its manufacturing output. The company now manufactures lighting solutions for markets in the commercial, industrial, residential, institutional and hospitality sectors in Jamaica, the Caribbean region, and North America.
